The Simple Woman’s Daybook – May 22, 2008

Outside My Window…
it’s cool this morning (59). All but the birds and squirrels are apparently still sleeping. Our birds have already started their day with song and the squirrels & chipmunks are busy, busy with work.
I am thinking…
about my daily devotion regarding Silence and how it corresponded with the book I’m reading, Celebration of Discipline. Today’s chapter was “The Discipline of Simplicity”. I think our precious Lord has found a way to speak volumes to me. This book and devotion came together on the same day to force me to pay attention. Here’s an excerpt from the chapter, “Simplicity if freedom. Duplicity is bondage. Simplicity brings joy and balance. Duplicity brings anxiety and fear. The preacher of Ecclesiastes observes that ‘God made man simple; man’s complex problems are of his own devising’ (Ecclesiastes 7:30).”
I am thankful for…
laughter.
From the kitchen…
cheese bread for breakfast. If I were staying home today, I’d love to make up some blueberry scones.
I am wearing…
comfy shorts, tshirt, flip-flops.
I am creating…
a plan for our Vacation Bible School in my mind.
I am going…
to walk a few miles with my best friend. Since the college child is home, I can scoot out for awhile and leave the little people home asleep.  🙂
I am reading…
Celebration of Discipline – The Path to Spiritual Growth by Richard Foster. This book was difficult for me to delve in to. After a couple of painful days, I have focused enough in my quiet time to actually absorb the words. Our Sunday School class is reading this book. I did not come to it on my own. From the inside cover, “Dividing the Disciplines into three movements of the spirit, Foster shows how each movement contributes to a balanced spiritual life”.
I am hoping…
for good weather today so I am able to get out in my new “so-called” garden.
I am hearing…
the morning news and the children beginning to stir.
Around the house…
is a mess this morning. Thursday mornings are always cluttered. We have church on Wednesday nights and I am just too tired by the time we get home to do the 30 minute shuffle (pick up junk time).
One of my favorite things…
quiet cup of coffee in the early morning after sweet husband is off to the work.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week:
Beginning the quest to be simple.
Here is picture thought I am sharing…
This picture was taken a month or so ago. The trees are full of leaves now but I love the light coming through the trees. God is incredible!
